Methyl paraben

Methyl hydroxybenzoate, also known as methyl paraben, relative average molecular mass of 152.15, is a white crystalline powder or colorless crystal, soluble in alcohol, ether and acetone, very slightly soluble in water. Methyl paraben is a kind of parabens, neutral, non-irritating, almost non-toxic good preservatives. The effect of mold and yeast is better, and the effect of bacteria is poor. At pH3 ~ 6, the antiseptic effect is the strongest and the nature is the most stable, and the above pH8 is gradually hydrolyzed, and the antibacterial effect is also weakened. Propyl paraben [0.02%(w/v)] is used in combination with methyl paraben [0.18%(w/v)] as a bacteriostatic agent in various injectable preparations.
