Croscarmellose sodium is a cross-linked, partially carboxymethylated cellulose sodium salt as a white or off-white powder that swells and forms a suspension in water and is insoluble in absolute ethanol, diethyl ether, acetone or toluene. Croscarmellose sodium is a hydrophilic, water-insoluble polymer that combines capillary action and swelling with extremely rapid water absorption.

The dosage range in tablets is 0.5-5%, and the dosage range in capsules is 10-25%. It is suitable for preparation processes such as direct compression, dry granulation, wet granulation, etc., usually the dosage of direct compression is 2%, and wet granulation is 3%. For example, it is used as a disintegrant in preparations such as rivaroxaban tablets, irbesartan tablets, and finasteride dispersible tablets.
