1,2-propylene glycol is a colorless clear viscous liquid, which is prepared by hydrolysis and refining of propylene oxide. With water, ethanol or chloroform can be arbitrarily miscible. Propylene glycol is widely used in the fields of food, medicine and cosmetics, and is commonly used as a solvent, humectant and plasticizer as a pharmaceutical excipient.
