bacteriostatic preservativePhenylethyl alcohol can be used as a bacteriostatic preservative in nasal, ophthalmic and otic preparations at a concentration of 0.25%~ 0.5%(V/V), often in combination with other bacteriostatic agents. For example, the use of phenylethyl alcohol in combination with benzalkonium chloride, chlorhexidine gluconate, chlorhexidine diacetate and phenylmercuric nitrate is synergistic. It can also be used alone as an antimicrobial preservative in topical formulations at a concentration of 1% (v/v).

Other usesPhenylethyl alcohol is commonly used in chewing gum, baked goods, sweets and cold drinks as an edible flavor. Can also be used in the field of daily chemical, widely used in the deployment of soap and cosmetic flavor.
