Disodium edetate

Disodium edetate, alias ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid disodium salt, disodium EDTA (dihydrate), disodium EDTA, white or white crystalline powder, dissolved in water, almost insoluble in methanol, ethanol or chloroform. Edetate disodium is often used as a chelating agent in pharmaceutical preparations because of its good chelating effect on metal ions. It is also an effective metal ion stabilizer. It can form a stable chelate with most metals other than alkali metals such as alkaline earth metals, heavy metals and ferrous metals to avoid the catalytic oxidation of metal ions, thereby improving the stability of pharmaceutical preparations.
