DL-α-Tocopherol

DL-α-tocopherol, also known as vitamin E alcohol, has a relative average molecular weight of 430.71. It is miscible with chloroform, ethanol, diethyl ether, acetone and vegetable oil, but is insoluble in water and is transparent to yellow viscous oil. It is a synthetic form of vitamin E. Because its vitamin activity was first identified in 1936 in an experiment on rat fecundity factors, it was named "tocopherol", it is a class of compounds that primarily exhibit vitamin E activity.
