Butyl hydroxybenzoate, also known as butyl p-hydroxybenzoate, has a relative average molecular mass of 194.23. White crystalline powder. It smells a little special. Soluble in alcohol, ether and chloroform, slightly soluble in water and glycerol. Melting point 68~69 ℃. It is prepared by esterification of p-hydroxybenzoic acid and n-butanol under the catalysis of sulfuric acid. It has antibacterial and antiseptic effect.
