Product Description- Hydroxyphenyl esters are obtained by reacting p-hydroxybenzoic acid with an alcohol. The antibacterial activity of hydroxyphenyl esters increases as the length of the alkane chain increases. Methyl ester has the lowest antibacterial activity and butyl ester is the highest. The combined use of hydroxyphenyl esters enhances antibacterial and antiseptic activity due to synergistic effects. Therefore, methyl ester, ethyl ester, propyl ester, and butyl ester are often used in combination.
Application Range- It is widely used as an antibacterial preservative in cosmetics and pharmaceutical preparations.
- Hydroxybenzyl methyl ester and hydroxypropyl propyl ester are used in combination as an antibacterial preservative for various injections.
Product Advantages- It is free of phenol and salicylic acid and has higher safety.
- It is suitable for high-risk drug delivery routes such as injections, inhalation preparations and ophthalmic preparations.
Precautions- When a nonionic surfactant is present, the antibacterial activity is significantly reduced due to the action of the micelles.
- Iron ions can cause discoloration, and weak bases and strong acids promote their hydrolysis.
